Levy Amounts
The A grade levy is NZ$500 per player and the B grade levy is NZ$300 per player. Team officials and supporters are not subject to the levy. The additional $200 for the A grade is for training facility hire costs.
Levy Purpose and Breakdown
The levy is for umpiring costs and team equipment.
Umpires: WMG teams are required to provide an umpire who will base umpire games other than their own at the same venues on the same days. We have chosen to bring qualified and experienced NZBUA umpires, one per team. We are covering tournament fees, flights, and basic accommodation costs for the umpires. Umpires are covering all of their other costs and time off work. This is roughly NZ$235 (78%) of the $300 levy per player.
Team Equipment: Although we ask tour participants to supply their own equipment, we will supply some team bats in case of breakages, some team baseballs for warm-ups and as mementos, and some spare uniforms in case of loss or damage. This is NZ$65 (22%) of the $300 levy per player.

Tour members are asked to make payment of the levy as soon as possible.

Levy FAQs
Will levies be refunded to any tour members who have to withdraw? Yes
Does the levy include players’ custom jerseys? No
Will un-used funds be returned to players? In short, yes, but we do not expect to have un-used funds given that we’re operating without any form of contingency and yet it is likely that additional team costs will arise. We are seeking to raise funds to cover costs not included in the levy e.g. game day transport, training facility hire in Kobe. If our fundraising goes very well, we may be able to generate some levy refunds as well. We reserve the right to refund un-used levy in the form of mementos or credits if the amounts in question would be very small and not worth processing that many transactions for.
Couldn’t we have done a cheaper umpiring option? Possibly. However, we needed to organise umpiring of some form and, with low information from organisers, it was prudent to provide qualified, experienced umpires from NZBUA and set a high standard that we hope other teams also meet with their umpires that will be officiating our games. Reflecting that the tour will be an enjoyable experience for our NZBUA umpires, we are only meeting their basic, direct costs. Think of the NZ$235 spent on umpiring as part of the tournament fee and it’s still a low fee for an international tournament.
