Equipment Rules

The WMG sport information guide gives a few clear equipment rules.

  • Gloves: Must be gloves for regulation baseball as shown in the competition
    rules of the WBSC.
  • Bats: Must use only wooden bats “as specified in the rules” except that female players
    may use aluminum bats.
  • Helmets: All batters and runners must wear helmets with double/single ear flap(s).
  • Cleats: The use of metal spikes is permitted.

Wood Bats

We wrote to the WMG technical committee to ask if composite wood bats would be permitted or only single-piece solid wood bats. Their response was as follows: “In accordance with the WBSC Official Baseball Rules, only single-piece solid wood bats are permitted for use. However, regarding the detailed equipment regulations, we will provide further information to each participating team once all teams have been officially confirmed.”

Considering this response, we currently understand that bats will have to be both (a) single-piece wood bats and (b) on the WBSC list of approved bats. As of 6 March 2026, one-piece wooden bats from 40 brands have met the WBSC’s equipment standards and received official approval. Here is the list of approved brands.

Tour participants are welcome to bring their own wood bats. In addition, each team will be issued two or three club bats for those who do not bring bats and/or as protection against breakages.

One option for tour participants wishing to purchase legal bats is through the club bats. We have sourced some bats from Baseball New Zealand via their Sam Bat partnership. If you are interested in purchasing one or more of these, please contact Cam or KC. These bats are located in Auckland.
