Tours / Kei Te Haerenga Tāpoi

We participate in Masters baseball tournaments and tours overseas.

We identify tournaments and call for expressions of interest from our existing members and wider community to establish whether we can field one or more squads. Once we have enough players that’re committed to tour, we appoint an XO to co-ordinate registration, accommodation, travel, training, uniforms, and so on. All Ārahi tours are not-for-profit with players only required to cover costs.

We aim for at least one tour per year, focusing on World Masters Games.

We are still developing our tour calendar with an expectation we will attend World Masters Games 2027 (Kansai, Japan) and World Masters Games 2029 (Perth, Australia). Other possible tour locations include future Asia Pacific Masters Games, Pan Pac Masters Games (e.g. Gold Coast, Australia in 2026 or 2028), and Australian state tournaments.

A note on selection and participation.

In forming tour parties, we seek to accommodate all eager participants rather than have competitive selection but we may conduct grading assessments when tournaments have skill-based grades or squad size limits. In addition, we ask that participants consider the level of play of the tournament grade they are applying for and self-assess that they (a) know how to play baseball at that level and (b) physically can do so. This is for everyone’s own safety and enjoyment as well as fairness to team mates. Then, once a squad is formed, our philosophy is to achieve roughly equal playing time where possible. Any exceptions to these principles will be clearly communicated.
